Volta Regional Minister James Gunu Commends Genius IT Brainery and Foundation for Tech Innovation and Youth Empowerment During Surprise Visit

Hon James Gunu Visits Genius IT Brainery

In a move underscoring the government’s commitment to youth-driven tech innovation, the Honorable Regional Minister James Gunu paid an unannounced visit to the Genius IT Brainery and its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, the Genius IT Foundation, on Monday, February 10, 2025. The visit highlighted the institution’s transformative role in bridging Ghana’s digital divide and equipping youth with cutting-edge tech skills to combat unemployment.

A Vision for Excellence and Inclusion

Genius IT Brainery, a tech-focused training institute, has positioned itself as a beacon of excellence in computer science education, while its sister organization, the Genius IT Foundation, champions digital inclusivity by empowering marginalized communities through technology. During his tour, Hon. Gunu lauded the institution’s dual focus on education and social impact, stating, “Initiatives like these are critical to reducing unemployment and ensuring no one is left behind in the digital revolution. Government alone cannot drive this change—partnerships with visionary institutions like Genius IT are essential.”

Government Support for Youth-Led Innovation

In an impassioned address to students and staff, the Regional Minister emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to nurture Ghana’s tech talent. “The youth are the backbone of our nation’s future. By supporting their ideas and providing resources, we unlock opportunities for sustainable growth,” he remarked. He further praised Genius IT’s contributions to positioning the Volta Region as a burgeoning tech hub, capable of solving local and continental challenges through innovation.

CEO Desmond Kitsi: Building a Talent Hub for Africa

Speaking with Hon. Gunu, Genius IT Brainery CEO Desmond Kitsi outlined the institution’s mission to cultivate tech proficiency across all age groups. “We are not just training coders; we are building problem-solvers who will transform Volta into Africa’s next tech talent pool,” Kitsi asserted. He highlighted ongoing programs that blend technical training with real-world applications, ensuring graduates are equipped to tackle societal issues through technology.

A Gesture of Solidarity

Moved by the institution’s impact, Hon. Gunu made a surprise cash donation to support its initiatives, calling it a “token of encouragement” for the students and staff. “What I’ve seen here today is proof that Ghana’s youth are ready to lead. This donation is a small step toward ensuring their dreams become reality,” he said.

Gratitude and Forward Momentum

Mr. Kitsi expressed profound appreciation for the Minister’s gesture, describing it as “a testament to the government’s belief in grassroots innovation.” He added, “This support fuels our resolve to keep pushing boundaries. Every smile on these students’ faces reminds us that their success is Ghana’s success.”

Looking Ahead

The visit concluded with mutual pledges to strengthen collaboration between the government and private sector. Hon. Gunu reiterated his commitment to amplifying the Volta Region’s tech ecosystem, promising to leverage state platforms to scale Genius IT’s initiatives. For Mr. Kitsi and his team, the Minister’s endorsement marks a pivotal moment in their quest to make Volta a global tech talent powerhouse.
